The Colorado criminal justice system classifies crimes as either misdemeanors or felonies.  A misdemeanor is less serious than a felony, but may still carry significant fines and penalties, including incarceration.  In addition, a criminal record can have long-term consequences on a person’s life.

Criminal charges should be reviewed, analyzed and handled by an experienced attorney who is willing to spend the time and energy to fight for the client.  At Deere Law, LLC, we strive to make sure our clients comprehend the charges against them and the potential consequences, and to work together to develop the best possible legal strategy given the facts surrounding the case.  A critical aspect of any felony charge is a solid understanding of the fines and penalties associated with the crimes of which they are being accused.  Those potential fines and penalties include the following:

Misdemeanor Classification Potential Incarceration Fines
Class 3 Between 2 to 24 years in prison From $3,000 to $750,000
Class 3 Between 0 to 6 months in jail From $50 to $750
Class 2 Between 3 to 12 months in jail From $250 to $1,000
Class 1 Between 6 to 18 months in jail From $500 to $5,000
Class 1 with Extraordinary Risk Crime Enhancement* Between 6 to 24 months in jail From $500 to $5,000

* Extraordinary risk crimes include child abuse, violent crimes, aggravated robbery, distribution, manufacturing, sale or possession of drugs with the intent to sell, distribute, manufacture or dispense, stalking, etc.

Note that DUI and DWAI charges are different than a typical misdemeanor charge, and are penalized and sentenced separate from the structure shown above.
